It was a dramatic goal galore weekend as the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League staged its penultimate round of matches. With Ksh 1million at stake, more heat pilled at the top three with the race being decided by the last game of the season as leading contenders Kayole Asubuhi, TUK and Jericho All Stars won their corresponding fixtures to set up a nervy last match of the league.

BABA DOGO UNITED 1-3 KAYOLE ASUBUHI
The dramatic jostling of the prime spot in the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League saw Kayole Asubuhi go on top again thanks to a resounding 3-1 victory over Baba Dogo United at Baba Dogo grounds on Sunday 11 September.
Baba Dogo were first to hit the target as early as the 7th minute through Reagan Ochieng’ who gave the home team the early lead that stood firm the whole of the first half.
But Asubuhi who were under pressure to win the match after defending champs TUK and Jericho All Stars won their respective matches on Saturday, were lifted by second half strikes by Brian Ochieng (57′) and Justin Wambi (70′).
It was Tobius Olum who rose to the occasion to slot in the match winner with just ten minutes remaining in the game to hand Asubuhi the win which catapults them to the top of the standings with 61 points, point shy of second-placed TUK who hit Ajax 7-1 on Saturday. Jericho are ranked 3rd with 59 points.
Baba Dogo remains deeply rooted at the relegation zone in the East conference as they sit 14th with 23 points.
METRO SPORTS 7-1 SHAMAKO BABES
In another entertaining match, five goals from Peter Ambetsa and one apiece from James Mwathi and Julius Andende guided Metro Sports to an emphatic 7-1 triumph over minnows Shamako Babes in a fast- paced match.
Ambetsa who was the man of the show sent his side to the lead after 4 minutes in the game before doubling the scored almost instantly. The forward made it 3-0 in the 21 min with Mwathi complimenting his efforts with a solo goal two minutes later as the sportsmen took the driving seat in the opening stanza. Jerome Onyango pulled one back for the West conference underdogs at the dying moments of the first half heading into the breather at 4-1 to the advantage of the hosts.
Upon resumption, Ambesta continued from where he had left sinking in a two successive goals in the 51 and 57 minutes before Andende drilled the final nail on Shamako’s coffin with an 81st minute strike that ensured Metro took their point tally to 47 at 6th place. On the other hand, Shamako who are aleady facing the chop to the league’s Division One have amassed only 12 points at the tail end of the log.
MELTAH KABIRIA 2-3 SHAURI MOYO BLUE STARS
Vincent Otieno came to the rescue after claiming the match winner at the stroke of full time as Shauri Moyo Blue Stars escaped with a narrow 3-2 win over wastful Meltah Kabiria at BP grounds in Kawangware. Meltah squandered a first half advantaga fter Dalton Musa had fired the opener in the 18th minute before Francis Wambora doubled the lead at the half hour mark. Blue Star showever pulled one back in the 38th minute through Stanley Nyumbu to go into the break at 2-1 in favour of the home club.
Rahim Malik then pegged the proceedings on level matters after netting the equalizer for Blue Stars in the 57th minute to ignite the East conference team back into action where Otieno out of the blues sealed the win for that kept alive his sides dreams of finishing the competition among the top four whey they sit with 55 points.
Meltah are placed 8th with 43 points.
MASA 0-0 KAWANGWARE UNITED
At Makongeni grounds, after a disappointing first half MASA settled for a scoreless stalemate with guests Kawangware United.The hosts will rue the missed opportunities that could have a made a difference in the match where Elvin Ochieng’ squandered a penalty early in the first half to head into the breather 0-0.Veteran Francis Thairu failed to sting as his ambitions of clinching the golden boot award went up in flames on Saturday when TUK’s Jeconiah Uyoga surpassed his 23 goals. As a result of sharing the spoils, Hassan Andale’s MASA occupy 7th position with 47 points while Kawangware are at 10th with 38 points.
DIGUNA FC 2-1KABETE UNITED
Kabete United’s dwindling fortunes hit a new low after being humbled 2-1 by hosts Diguna Fc at Nakeep grounds.A 33 minute goal from Kevin Mtarakwa and another from Ken Njenga late in the second half guaranteed the Rongai based team the three points that leaves them 9th with 39 points. William Mata had brought Kabete back into contention in the 40th minute but Robert Orangi’s Kabete failed to hold on as they suffered another loss that leaves their top flight campaign in tartars. With one match left, Kabete who sit 13th with 32 points will join fellow West conference team Shamako Babes in relegation.

TUK 7-1 AJAX FC
Jeconiah Uyoga put a maverick performance netting six goals to inspire TUK demolish 10-man AJAX Fc 7-1 in a one sided SportPesa Super 8 Premier League encounter on Saturday 10 September at Camp Toyoyo grounds.
As a result, the defending champions now command the table standings with 61 points ahead of Sunday’s games.
Lawrence Agina had given the university students the lead in the 15th minute before Jeconiah went on a rampage scoring two goals in the first half (17th and 42 minutes) to give his side a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
Ajax were reduced to 10 men after keeper Santos Zadock brought a player down in the box in the 35th minute prompting centre referee John Ndika to hand him a straight red.
In the second period, the talismanic forward who is contention of the league’s golden boot award found the back of the net in the 63, 65, 69 and 87th minute to ensure the Francis Oduor charges took the spoils. Raidon Thiong’o scored the consolation goal for Ajax in the 79th minute.
The loss means the Rongai based side retain 5th spot with 48 points.
JERICHO ALL STARS 2-0 KIAMAIKO CITY
Later on at the same venue, second half goals from Kevin Oreso and Brian Kasasi ensured Jericho All Stars bagged the three vital points against a stubborn Kiamiko City who were forced to finish the match with nine players.
After a scoreless first half where the hosts missed countless chances, Oreso broke the deadlock in the 57th minute for a slender 1-0 lead that stood until the 88th minute when Kasasi converted a penalty kick after Kiamaiko’s George Muriuki hacked down Maqbul Mohammed in the forbidden area.
Consequently, Muriuki was sent off for a second bookable offense as his team mate Eugene Chege was given a straight red for hurling abusive language towards Kevin Juma who was the center referee.
Jericho now move to second on the log with 59 points while the Citizens are rooted at 11th with 34 points.
