KK Homebooyz 0-3 Gor Mahia (Mumias Sugar Sports Complex)
Gor Mahia, with new Brazilian coach Jose Marcelo Ferreira aka Ze Maria making his first league bow, notched up their first win of the season, and in emphatic fashion.
Lead striker Enock Agwanda opened the scoring a minute into the game – the fastest goal of the year – before Rwanda striker Jacques Tuyisenge, the most expensive playing in the league, and making his much awaited debut, doubled K’Ogalo’s lead five minutes into the second half.
Jacob Keli, the 2013 KPL Golden Boot winner headed in Gor Mahia’s third goal and his first of the season late in the game to wrap up matters. On this account, the defending champions look to be back on track.
Sofapaka 1-2 Chemelil Sugar (Kenyatta Stadium)
This was Chemelil’s first victory over Sofapaka in an away fixture in their last eight meetings.
Jared Obwoge put Chemelil ahead in the 33rd minute before Erastus Mwaniki doubled the scores seven minutes later to hand the sugar miller a huge advantage going into the break.
Defender Wycliffe Opondo pulled a goal back for Sofapaka via a penalty kick midway through the second half but the writing had already been written on the wall for the 2009 Kenyan champions who have now lost their last six matches.
Thika United 0-0 Posta Rangers (Thika County Stadium)
The affair was balanced though Rangers will feel they should have got more from the game after Thika captain international Dennis Odhiambo was shown a red in the 14th minute for an illegal tackle on Georson Likonoh.
Tusker 1-1 Bandari (Kenyatta Stadium)
The two title contenders ended up sharing the spoils in a hugely enjoyable match that saw plenty of chances created either end.
It was Bandari who went up first with former Thika United midfielder David Kingatua scoring a brilliant goal in the 14th minute.
Ghanaian striker Stephen Owusu rose high to head home minutes later and return Tusker on level terms.
