In a meeting held today (Tuesday 22) in Nairobi, Gor Mahia Executive Committee lead by the Chairman Ambrose Rachier agreed to honor the invitation to play Ethiopia’s St. George FC in Addis as they mark the 80th anniversary since formation.
Gor Mahia and El Merreikh of Sudan were invited to play the 26-time Ethiopian Premier League Champions between January 10-14, 2016 as a culmination of a year long activities celebrating the milestone.
The decision means the Kenyan Champions will not take part in the annual Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar which they were also invited to grace around the same period.
The move was informed by the need not cause early burnout of players before the new season, which kicks off in February as Mapinduzi Cup is an intensive 8 team tournament.
Soka25east.com has also learnt that while in Ethiopia, K’Ogalo will play two other friendlies, probably against El Merreikh subject to confirmation, and another team from the Ethiopian League.
These, in preparation for the CAF Champions League preliminaries against CNAPS of Madagascar in February.
Gor will also participate in the inaugural Fidel Odinga Memorial Cup later January.
