Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr has reacted to African Champions League preliminary round draw that paired his team against Leones Vegetarianos of Equatorial Guinea for the 2018 edition.
The 2017 Kenyan Premier League winning coach says they will have to get “everything right” to achieve their target of reaching the competition’s groups stage.
“We have to get everything right: off the field and on the it to progress which I believe my players will want,” Kerr, who is holidaying back home in Britain told Soka25east.
He admits he has no idea about their opponents and he only wants to focus on his team.
“…none and I only want to concentrate on K’Ogalo (Gor Mahia).”
Leone are not familiar in African football and will be gracing the premium Africa’s club tournament for the first time.
The Malabo-based side has however represented the country once in the CAF Confederations Cup in 2015 but never went past preliminary stage.
Gor Mahia on the other hand are returning to the continental scene since 2016 when they also failed to go past the initial stage.
The two will lock horns in a two legged fixture with Gor hosting the first leg between 9th and 11th February 2018 before traveling to Malabo for the second leg.
Aggregate winner will face either Esperance du Tunis or ASAC Concorde of Mauritius in the first round for a spot in the groups stage.
Kerr has in the past made it known that he will be targeting the lucrative phase of the tournament.
The team will reassemble from 18th December to begin preseason ahead of the busy season ahead.
