Gor Mahia Coach Frank Nuttall has lauded his charges for reaching the last eight of Kenya Cup “GoTV Shield” after a resounding 4-2 win over third tier league side Palos FC in a match played on Wednesday 14 at Kasarani.
Speaking to Soka25east.com after the thrilling encounter, the Scotsman alluded to the fact that in any knock out tournament progression is all that matters and not just playing good football.
The Lakers pushed the Kenyan heavyweights to the limit occasionally putting them under pressure contrary to an easy game many expected.
“We had possession and created a number of chances, we deserved to score four goals and win the game because progressing to the next stage in any tournament is the main idea,” Nuttall said.
Asked about his defense taking in two goals from Palos, Nuttall said not everyday you win with a clean sheet.
“Not everyday you win with a clean sheet. Again when you go for goals at times it happens you concede. We also had a whole new back four.” he added.
K’Ogalo played without two of their dependable defenders in Burundian Karim Nzigiyimana and Rwandan Abouba Sibomana who did duty for their respective national sides during the international break and are yet to return for club assignments.
Ali Abondo grabbed a brace with Michael Olunga and Harun Shakava scoring a goal each for Gor – Calvince Omenga netted twice for Palos.
Focus for the KPL champions now shifts to weekend’s Top 8 Tournament match against Tusker FC at Afraha Stadium on Saturday 17.
