The Kenyan Premier League entered its 11th week over the weekend with one match on Saturday and three matches played on Sunday.
Muhoroni Youth 0-0 Nairobi City Stars
Muhoroni Youth played to a goalless draw at their Muhoroni backyard in a dull Kenyan Premier League match.
The match that was played in the early afternoon of 9th May saw both teams even in the first half though Muhoroni were stronger on the counter with the only meaningful effort being that of Nigerian import Abbas Akinyemi who had his cross to Wanjala headed wide.
Calls by fans to have Club President Moses Adagala fire Coach Francis Baraza claiming that his signings and the way he does his fielding were poor. They even forced the coach to make an early substitution in the 34th minute bringing in Fred Banda and pulling out Charles Ssamanga much to the relieve of fans.
City stars duo of Bruno Sserunkuma and Samuel Wailer were a constant thorn in flesh for the Muhoroni Defense but their efforts were equally thwarted by the Muhoroni defenders.
The best chance of the game was in the 85’ when Masita Masuta rounded two defenders but he was too lethargic at goal forcing City keeper Ronnie Kagunzi to stretch spilling the ball out for a resultant corner.
The draw pushed Muhoroni Youth to position 12 with 11 points,a point more than 13th placed Chemelil, who could leapfrog them with a win over Ulinzi on Tuesday 12th May.
Ushuru 2-0 Nakuru All stars
Veteran former AFC leopards player Charles Okwemba scored quick goals within 5 minutes to send Ushuru to the 8th position in the log, same as Sofapaka and Leopards all on 15 points but Ushuru with a game more.
Charles Okwemba scored via a penalty in the first minute after Amon Muchiri had handled the ball in the box for a 1-0 lead.He stretched the lead to 2 goals after a well taken free kick in the 5th minute.
Nakuru All stars are still rooted at the bottom of the KPL with 6 points, 3 points below Nairobi City Stars who occupy the 15th position.
Ushuru Coach Ken Kenyatta said the rotational change he made on the squad paid off.
The match was played at the Safaricom Kasarani Stadium.
Sony Sugar 0-0 KCB
Hosts Sony Sugar inconsistency continued when they were forced to a barren draw by visiting KCB at the Awendo Green Stadium
Coach Zedekiah Otieno is a worried man after picking just a point in three consecutive games. They were humiliated 5-1 by AfC leopards, lost 0-1 to Gor at home before finally picking a point against the Bankers.
The bankers picked their 3rd consecutive draw in that result at Awendo.
Sony were the first to show signs of getting an opener but Sylvester Wanyama, elder brother to Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama had his header go wide.Chamberi Marwa’s third minute effort was parried away by Samuel Okinda in the KCB goal. The Tanzanian would have put Sony ahead in the 14th minute but he was ruled to be in an offside position.
Stand in coach Elvis Ayany was a worried man after his left full back Warambo was stretched off the pitch and he was forced to make an early substitution bringing on experienced Yusuf Juma formerly of Gor and Thika.
@nd half saw Coach Elivis Ayany standing in for Rishadi Shedu who was at the bench bring on Raymond Murungi for on loan Simba player Paul Kiongera.
The draw pushes Sony to the 9th spot with 15 points after 11 games 2 ahead of Mathare and Bandari but same as Leopards,Sofapaka and Ushuru.Sony however have a lesser goal difference.
KCB however maintains the 14th position with an addition of a point to 7 ,three behind Chemelil.
Western Stima 0-0 Gor Mahia
Western Stima forced defending KPL champions and league leaders Gor Mahia to a goalless draw in a packed Moi Stadium in the Lakeside City of Kisumu.
Gor Mahia had hoped to extend their winning ways after collecting maximum points in the midweek in Awendo but Western Stima forced the match to a draw.
The Henry Omino side was however wasteful on goal in two occasions failing to go past the Gor Mahia defense.
Ronald Okoth was a thorn in flesh for the Gor Mahia defenders missing the best chance of the game in the first half.
Gor Mahia’s Timothy Otieno, Khalid Aucho and Ali Abondo tried to get to the back of the net but Stima gosalkeeper Gabriel Andika was so repulsive at the goal area.
2nd half saw Gor Mahia hungrier in goal as the power men resorted to defending. Meddie Kagere came close to scoring but his header was feeble and was parried away for corner. George Odhiambo who missed several scoring opportunity could have given Gor Mahia the lead in the 88th minute after nice interchange with Meddie Kagere but the resultant shot was saved by Andika in goal.
The draw pushes western Stima to the 3rd position in the KPL log with 19 points with Gor Mahia maintain the pole position with 27 points,6 more than Western Stima and Thika who are tied on 19.
