By John Nganga,
With most Kenyans gone for a period of time with no football action, Kenyans will have yet a busy weekend at the Nyayo national stadium where Kenya’s finest Gor Mahia who square it against Congolese opponents AC Leopards in the ongoing CAF champions league cup.
The 14 time Kenyan champions and 5 time Cecafa club champions have registered positive results managing 3 wins and a draw in four previous matches. K’ogallo as they are popularly known are focused and believe they can do well past the quarter finals stage, their best finish which was in 1992.
Coach Frank Nuttal was confident his boys will perform .”we are ready for them we are working hard to get
something out of the match. we are banking on the home support and we are asking our fans to come and cheer us.we must take advantage of the home ground,”he said.
Elsewhere, George ‘blackberry’ Odhiambo said the morale is high in the camp and all they want is a win.”we are not concerned about what they have won,our main focus is to win the first leg match to make it easier for the return match,”said the 2011 Kenya player of the year.
AC leopards are well geared for the match having been on a 10 day tour of Douala. The 2012 CAF Confederation Cup champions and two times Congolese champions have had a good run in previous matches having won
3 and drawn 2 with no loss. Being the first Congo Brazzaville’s club to qualify in the Caf Champions league group stages, AC leopard will be a hard nut to crack having kept 7 cleansheets in 8matches and they have scored 7 goals and conceded 1 in the same number of matches.
Speaking to the media the club President says the team must qualify for group stage,”we must reach the group stage something they have failed in two attempts,”he said. The match is proving to be a tactical one with both teams being victims of being eliminated before reaching the groups”
