Kenya’s sports betting giant Sportpesa will on Friday 4, be officially unveiled as the shirt sponsor of Kenyan Premier League heavyweight Gor Mahia FC at Intercontinental Hotel,Nairobi.
“The function will start at 12 noon.” Gor acting Secretary General Ronald Ngala confirmed.
The deal signed in January this year has seen the 15-time league winners don “Sportpesa” branded kits.
The value of the five years contract is expected to be known then. It is believed to be to the of Kshs. 50M per annum, and covers among other things; salaries of players and full kitting of the team plus technical bench.
Sportpesa are reported to be insisting on the team using quality kits for their logo, and hence K’Ogalo may drop the use of Under Armor brand for Puma. It’s still not clear what will happen to the kitting deal the club signed with Italian firm Legea before Sportpesa came on board.
A similar function for Gor’s eternal rivals AFC Leopards takes place today at the same venue, same time. Leopards are all sponsored by Sportpesa.
