Gor Mahia from Kenya will hold a meeting early this week to decide which of the three tournaments they have so far received invitations to grace in January 2016 they will honor.
K’Ogalo who are the reigning Kenyan champions have confirmed invites to play St. George FC of Ethiopia as they mark 80th anniversary since formation between January 10th and 15th, Mapinduzi Cup scheduled for January 2nd to 13th and Fidel Odinga Memorial Cup slated for 9th to 30th January.
Mapinduzi Cup is an eight team tournament that pits sides from Tanzania Mainland against those from the Island Zanzibar and guest teams from neighbors Uganda or Kenya.
Azam FC, Yanga SC, Simba SC, KMKM are among regular participants in the annual competition hosted in Zanzibar.
Simba beat Mtibwa Sugar to lift the 2015 title winning USD 10,000 as prize money.
Fidel Odinga Memorial Cup will be held in Bondo,Kenya for the first time in memory of Fidel who was the son of Gor Mahia patron Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga the former Prime Minister of Kenya. Fidel was known to be an ardent K’Ogalo fan who supported the team in cash and kind, he died last year under unclear circumstances.
