Reborn Gor Mahia plays strugglers Thika United tomorrow (Wednesday 6) in a SportPesa Premier League catch up fixture at Nyayo Stadium.
So much is at stake for both sides in this match and hence shaping it into a must win meet.
The reigning champions Gor Mahia, will be gunning for the second straight win under Ze Maria which could see them shoot to 6th on the log from current 12th, and slash the gab between them and leaders Tusker FC to just four points.
K’Ogalo will draw inspiration from the weekend 3-0 big kill away to Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday 2 at Mumias – and hope to build on the momentum.
The win (vs Kakamega Homeboyz) which was Gor’s first of the season also saw the 4M January purchase Jacques Tuyisenge debut with an assist and a goal, with Kenyan international Jacob Keli also scoring his first league goal for the giants.
Lack of the cutting edge in front of goal has partly been blamed for the slow start to the season for K’Ogalo, and if the 3-Star performance over the weekend is anything to go by then “Green Army” can be rest assured of celebrating more goals in the future with the return of “Ja Usenge”.
Enock Agwanda is Gor’s top scorer with two goals.
Thika United under the new Coach James Nandwa on the other hand will be desperate in search of the 2016 season’s maiden win in seven attempts.
This will however not be a walk in the park for the Milk Men looking at the past record between the two. K’Ogalo has not lost to the Kiambu County side since 2009 – and on their path to the 15th title in 2015, Gor produced a double over them, with an identical 2-0 wins.
Thika are 14th on the SPL table with just 3 points. Their last league match was a barren draw with Posta Rangers at home over the weekend – a win tomorrow will improve the points tally but not the position.
Kennedy Otieno is their leading scorer with two goals.
