Gor Mahia’s Nyanza tour started on Wednesday 6th in Awendo in South Nyanza with a 1-0 win over Sony Sugar FC that saw the reigning KPL champions stretch their unbeaten run to 10 matches and the winning streak to 8 matches, three on the trot.
“The Sony win is now in the past, and we are moving on to our next game which is also a must win; we must not take our eyes off the ball.” Gor coach Frank Nuttal told Soka25east.com
The return to the lake side City where K’Ogalo enjoys massive support will be nostalgic for coach Frank Nuttal who won his first league title as a coach and Gor’s 14th crown at the Moi Stadium in an enthralling 3-0 rout of Ushuru FC on the last day of the 2014 season.
Gor’s prolific striker Michael Olunga who has netted five times thus far and defender Harun Shakava will be away with the U23 national team that will be hoping to overturn three goals deficit against Botswana tomorrow in the Olympic qualifiers. Gor will be welcoming back defender Dikir Glay who has missed three matches due to shoulder injury and combative defensive midfielder Collins Okoth who missed the Sony match suffering from Malaria.
Three points will further widen Gor’s lead in the KPL log to 10 points.
Western Stima’s recent record against Gor Mahia stands at one win, a draw and four losses, however they have had a fairly good start to the 2015 season and they are 4th in the KPL log with 6 wins under their belt in 10 matches making this tie an interesting one.
The Coach Henry Omino side will be welcoming back Kevin Okoth from injury and he will be expected to add to Stima’s fire power consisting of Fredrick Shimonyo who has netted five times and former Gor Mahia striker Ronald Okoth. A win will lift the electricity men to 2nd in the log. Match kicks off at 3PM.
