Paul Put has been named as the new coach of Guinea, replacing Kanfory Bangoura, who was sacked after a disappointing African Nations Championship.

The 61-year-old has previously been in charge of the Kenya national team and resigned from the post on February 19 after falling out with federation officials.

The Guinea Federation announced his appointment on Friday stating that the new coach has signed a three-year contract.

Put, who has also coached Burkina Faso, Gambia and Jordan was chosen from a list of 86 candidates.

The Belgian national is best remembered in West Africa for guiding Burkina Faso to a runners-up place finish in the finals of the 2013 African Cup of Nations which was held in South Africa.

His first assignment will be against Mauritania in an international friendly slated to be played on 23rd March in Nouakchott as part of preparations for the 2019 AFCON qualifier fixture against Central African Republic in September this year.
