Guinea Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT) has petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to take action against Sudan over fielding a player who doesn’t currently play in the Sudanese top flight during Sunday’s Africa Nations Championship Group A match between the two countries.

In the petition, FEGUIFOOT alleges that during the matchday one game played at Mohammed V Stadium, Sudan fielded D’Elsaman Elsawi who has been under contract with a Libyan side Alittihad Tripoli.

FEGUIFOOT charges that Elsawi was confirmed as a new recruit by the Libyan side on 31st December 2017 having joined from Sudanese giants Al Merreikh.

“Sudanese player named D’Elsaman Elsawi Elsheikh who has been under contract with the Libyan club Alittihad of Tripoli since December 31, 2017 was lined up during the match Guinea-Sudan Sunday, January 14 at Mohamed V stadium in Casablanca.

“The reason of this petition is quite simple: according to the rules of the competition, the CHAN is reserved only for local players. If the request of the Guinean football federation filed with the CAF is heard, Sudan risks a disqualification at CHAN,” reads in part a statement released by Guinea’s federation.

The case is expected to be handled by the CAF Appeals Committee tribunal by the end of day.

If FEGUIFOOT succeeds in the petition, Guinea will have a chance to proceed to the quarter-finals of the 2018 Africa Nations Championship.
