Mohamed Bayo scored a late winner to break Equatorial Guinea hearts in a highly emotional game played at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on Sunday.
The win sees Guinea progress to the Quarterfinals where they will play Egypt or the DR Congo.
The game was evenly contested in what can only be described as a cat and mouse game.
The Nazalang Nacional suffered a blow and were reduced to 10 men after Frederico Bicoro saw red for a dangerous challenge.
Equatorial Guinea had a chance to go ahead after a penalty was awarded following a VAR review. Emilio Nsue stepped up but hit his effort against the post.
That miss proved costly for Nsue and his team as Mohamed Bayo headed in at the near post to seal the win for the National Elephants in the last minute of additional time.
