Starlets were bullish in the early stages of the competition thrashing Portuguese league champions CF Benfica 3-1 before obliterating Espanyol 3-0 in the second group “B” fixture, however they faded off thereafter going down 2-0 to Real Betis in the semi-finals on Wednesday before losing the third playoff on Thursday night.

Alba Pomares’ first-half goal and Anair Lomba’s goal scored from the penalty spot in the second half secured a third-spot finish for the Spanish League side Espanyol.

The Starlets’ Esse Akida is still in the run to finish as the tournament’s top-goalscorer with five goals.

The Coach David Ouma’s queens will now turn attention to CECAFA Women Tournament to be hosted in Uganda in September before gracing maiden AWCON in November in Cameroon.
