Harambee Starlets lost 2-1 to Cameroon in an international friendly played in Limbe on Sunday. The match was played at the 20,000-seater Omnisport Stadium.
Cameroon took the lead in the 38th minute when Ngono Mani scored through a penalty after Elizabeth Ambogo brought down Nkanda Agnes in penalty box. Starlets slowly got into the game but failed to create clear-cut chances.
In the second half, the Starlets improved and went for the leveller but their opponents defended in numbers to stop Kenya’s attack which was led by Mary Kinuthia.
The best opportunity for Starlets fell later in 51st minute with an equalizer from Christine Nafula,volleying home a Caroline Anyango cross. Starlets later gifted Cameroon with own-goal from custodian Samantha Akinyi in the 71st minute.
Chelvis Alila also had an opportunity in late second half to make it two for Starlets. She received a lovely cross from Essie Akida but his volley was saved by Cameroonian goalie Ndomo Annette and the Spendag striker fired the rebound wide.
The match ended after 90 minutes and 4 more of injury time. The loss is Starlet’s second to Cameroon and served as their last build up match before AWCON begins.
