Kenya’s Harambee Stars deputy Coach Frank Ouna was on Saturday unveiled at National Super League (NSL) side Wazito FC as Head Coach.

A statement from Wazito confirmed the appointment; “Wazito FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Frank Ouna as Head Coach. He takes over the reigns at the club with immediate effect.”

The club’s chief executive officer (CEO) Luthers Mokua hailed the CAF Licence A and Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbalbond (KNVB) Advanced Certificates holder as a champion, strategist and team player.

“Ouna is a champion both on and off the pitch. He is a good strategist, team player and keen with details. He brings to the club unmatched tact and understanding unrivaled for the club. His coaching history speak for itself as a proficient and skillful tactician,” Luthers said.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience and a valuable addition to the technical bench.” affirmed Mr. Mokua.

Ouna on the other hand had this to say; “I accepted to work with Wazito after seeing the level of organization and professionalism in which the club is being run. It’s a good project, excellent one going forward.”

Background

Born in Mombasa, Ouna started playing football back in the streets in the neighborhood he grew up in Magongo, Mombasa county. He played mainly amateur football for Nyota FC in the former division 1 while still a primary and high school student. He kept on playing football in his campus days but he was always involved with kids coaching every time he got an opportunity.

The soft spoken Coach did his first Basic Coaching course in 2002. His career has seen him handle Huruma Cranes Academy, Sofapaka, Posta Rangers and Gor Mahia as an assistant Manager. He is currently the assistant head coach for Harambee Stars.

The other side of Ouna that many may not know is that he is also an accomplished Information Technology professional.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology from Moi University in 2002. In 2008, he added another feather graduating from the University of Nairobi with two Masters degree; Masters in Business Administration and Masters in Information Systems.

He has used this knowledge in various companies like Sybrin and Citibank. His core competences are in Microcomputers & Networked Systems, Web Development & Management, Networking, S/W Engineering, OOP, and DB Systems Development.

Ouna will not have much time to celebrate his new job; his immediate assignment is the League Cup (GoTV Shield) match against Bidco United at Mumias Complex today (Sunday 31).
