Kenya’s men’s national team Harambee Stars came from behind to hold Mozambique 1-1 in an international friendly played on Saturday in Maputo.

Bidvest Wits striker Dominguez Pelembe put the Mambas ahead a minute to the hour mark – capitalizing on shaky goalkeeping from Posta Rangers shot stopper Patrick Matasi to break the deadlock.

Nonetheless, with five minutes left on the clock, Vaslund IF attacking midfielder Eric Johanna leveled to deny the hosts.

The last time the two sides clashed in Nairobi in November last year, it was Johanna’s loan which settled the tie.

The match was Harambee Stars’ first since losing 1-0 to Sierra Leone in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers in June this year.

Coach Stanley Okumbi, who has come under pressure lately to resign, handed Gor Mahia gifted midfielder Kenneth Muguna his debut in the match.

His teammate at the Kenyan Premier League giants George “Blackberry” Odhiambo also started the tie – marking his return to the team after a long time in the cold.
