Harambee Stars refuse to travel to Darfur for Sudan friendly

Harambee Stars latest

By Francis Ochieng Abuto,

Harambee Stars who travelled to Sudan for an International friendly have apparently refused to travel to Al Fashar ,Darfur to play their opponents after the match scheduled for Wednesday was postponed to Thursday evening Soka25east.com can reveal.

The players were held up at the Khartoum Airport for hours but after they were picked up by their hosts and asked to travel for the 2 hours flight to Darfur they declined.

The crisis has been precipitated after FKF received a cool $30,000 from the host to honour the match while the players feel it is not safe for them to travel to Darfur which witnessed fighting some years back.

As Soka25east went to press reliable sources intimated to us that the team was looking for flights back to the country since some of the top players like Southampton’s Victor Wanyama had been warned by their agents not to travel to Darfur and incase the match was to be played on Thursday he should take the first flight back to England as Thursday will not be a Fifa friendly day.

Meanwhile coach Adel Amrouche who was scheduled to arrive in Kenya on Tuesday evening did not do so and the players have not seen him in Sudan despite the squad being chosen by him while in his native Belgium.
