CAF president Issa Hayatou has sent his condolences to South Sudan Football Federation after gunmen attacked Young Stars of Torit team bus killing the driver and injuring six others.
Players and club officials were travelling on Juba-Torit road from Juba having played in the finals of South Sudan Cup when their bus was attacked by gunmen.
Antony Birmato who serves as Chairman of Torit Local Football Association together with Jordan Ohito who plays for the club were among the injured.
In an open letter to South Sudan Football Association president Chabur Goc, Hayotou wrote:
“It is with sadness that we learnt that gunmen attacked a bus carrying players and officials of one of South Sudan top-flight club from Torit after having played the final of the South Sudan cup 2016.
The CAF president added, “On behalf of the Confederation of African Football,its Executice Committe and in my personal name,please accept our most sincere condolesences for this loss,and kindly convey our heartful condolesences to the family of the deceased as well as to South Sudan football family.Furthermore please convey our wishes of best recovery to all injured.”
