Gondar is a historical city in the North-West of Ethiopia. It was the capital city of Ethiopia during 15th and 16th century. King Fasil, the founder of the great civilization Gondar, played a big role for it’s present tourist sites. The famous Fasil Palace is the one on the UNESCO heritage sites. Many tourists come to Gondar to see the historical palace.

Dashen Beer was the first team to represent Gondar in the Ethiopian Premier League. Unfortunately, the moneybags were relegated in 2015\16 season. However there is a silver lining for Gondar as newly promoted Fasil Kenema secured their place in the top flight football next season.
Fasil Kenema is named after the great King of Ethiopia, King Fasil. The club showed amazing performance during this season, and got promoted from Zone “B” for the second time in their history with four games left to the end of the Ethiopian Super League.
The colourful fans of the Fasil Kenema are known by the name,”The Emperors”; the team’s colors are red and white.

Founded in 1968, Fasil first tasted top league action in 2007 when the league had 20 teams and was called Medroic Ethiopian Millenium Ethiopian Premier-League. The stay was short and they were relegated the same year.
Another Zone “B” club inching closer to promotion is Weldiya City FC who only needs one game win to secure one of the remaining three slots.
If Weldiya is promoted, the Amhara Regional State will get two clubs in the premier league (Fasil and Weldiya) .
In Zone A,the Western side Jimma Aba Buna is leading the group while the capital city outfit – Addis Ababa City FC occupies the second place.
Next season, the Ethiopian Premier League will be expanded to 16 from 14 – four clubs from the two zones A and B forming the Ethiopian Higher League (Super League) will be promoted.
