CHINAMA AND PLAYERS TO STAY AT MIGHTY DESPITE RELEGATION

The recruitment of Justin Chinama as an assistant coach at Mufulira Wanderers was arguably the most ambitious thing Mufulira Wanderers did but little did we all all know that he will end up being the head coach.

In their desperation to avoid relegation, Wanderers ripped up the head coach model and somehow managed to attract him to lead the rescue mission.

Bringing in Chinama was a big coup for Mufulira Wanderers and Wilson Mwale was released by appointing him Technical Director. However, Chinama always knew his biggest enemy was time. With just 10 games to get his ideas across and having inherited a flaky and unbalanced squad which was low on confidence, it was always going to be a tough job.

Without a doubt he had improved things. at Mighty and hopes of staying up but the odds were against the team as relegation became very clear.

Regrets are that if only the former Green Buffaloes and Green Eagles coach had been given more time. If only Mighty had sacked Wilson Mwale when results didn’t seem like coming, after a string of draws and losses. For now the regrets won’t work as reality is that Mufulira Wanderers will be playing division one football.

Bwezani caught up with Chinama to find out if the man was staying with the team in the lower division . His response was simple :

“Yes Bwezani, you don’t withdraw before you achieve your aim.”

That will be good news to the followers of the team and those who were worried of the technical team. Justin Chinama is staying.

The immediate worry after a team is relegated is the exodus of players and Chimama doesn’t look at it that way.

“Wanderers is a big brand in Zambian Soccer, good players go and others come, but I am sure there is no exodus of players maybe one or two,” said a very calm and confident Chinama.

Now Zone Two is arguably the toughest zone in division one and Mufulira Wanderers will have to be excellent to bounce back to the super league after the end of the 2018 season. The coach knows this very well.

“Division one especially Zone Two is tough. But we shall handle it. If you want to lead the team to excellence, you need proper requirements. ” concluded Chinama.

Without a doubt that looks like an appeal to the Exco to have better preparations if the team is to bounce back.

Mufulira Wanderers was relegated from the super league along with Konkola Blades in zone two while Real Nakonde will be playing in Zone 3 and City of Lusaka in zone 1.
