The Morocco Women’s National Football Team got off to a winning start with a 1-0 win over Burkina Faso at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat on Saturday evening.
Ghizlane Chebbak scored the only goal of the game in the 29th minute as Morocco collected maximum three points in Group A.
A fizzing free kick was too much to handle by the Burkina Faso goalkeeper Mariam Ouattara.
Morocco lined up with three attackers Tottenham Hotspur star Rosella Ayane, Fatima Tagnaout and Iman Saoud showing intent to pick up a win.
Burkina Faso coach Pascal Sawadogo had deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation with players like Balkissa Sawadogo, Juliette Nana and teenager Adama Congo leading the charge.
The Lionesses dominated the game through our the entire 90 minutes and were unlucky not to score more goals with Chebbak seeing her sweet free kick saved by Ouattara.
Burkina Faso could not come back and equalize with the home side just one win away from the quarterfinals.
The Moroccans will meet Uganda on Tuesday while Burkina Faso face Senegal in a West Africa affair on the same night.
