Algeria’s Hussein Dey suffered their second defeat in Group D of the CAF Confederations Cup after losing 2-0 to Angola’s Petro de Luanda at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Sunday.
The result sees the Angolan team at the top of Group D on seven points for the time being. Dey also have seven points but are second due to their head-to-head encounter.
Gor Mahia are third with six points and Zamalek last with five points, but they are in action later on Sunday.
The home side controlled the proceedings from the onset and made their pressure tell in the 16th minute courtesy of a strike from Job, 1-0.
Petro de Luanda continued to dictate play after taking the lead and were afforded the perfect opportunity to double their lead five minutes before the break when the referee awarded them a penalty.
Tiago Azulao stepped up and clinically converted the penalty-kick to make it 2-0 to the home side going into the break.
The second half was not as entertaining as the first as Angolan side sat back in defence to protect their lead.
Hussein Dey threw players forward, but were unable to find any consolation as they suffered their second loss in Group D.
Petro de Luanda are in action again in the Confederations Cup next Sunday away to Gor Mahia while Dey will host Zamalek.
