Azam FC of Tanzania produced a virtuoso performance against visiting Esperance of Tunisia coming from a goal down to beat the visitors 2-1 at the Chamanzi stadium in Dar Es Salaam in a CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday afternoon.
Esperance broke the deadlock when Haythem Jouini scored in the 34th minute beating keeper Aishi Manula with a beautiful shot to give the visitors a 0-1 advantage.
The game went to the break with Esperance still leading but upon resumption Azam coach Stewart Hall effected changes bringing on Frank Domayo for Kipre Bolou .In the 48th minute John Bocco missed a clear chance when his header went off target as Esperance keeper Moez Chefifia was yellow carded for time wasting.
Despite being a goal down Azam continued pilling pressure which paid off handsomely in the 68th minute when Ferid Moussa equalized to make the scores 1-1.
Ramadhan Sigano aka Messi added the second goal two minutes later as the Esperance defence was caught napping as Azam went ahead 2-1.
In the 89th minute Azam suffered a setback when dependable defender Pascal Wawa was injured forcing coach Stewart to replace him with David Mwantika but the Tanzanians held on to the famous win.
The second-leg game is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19 in El Menzah.
