Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Sam Nyamweya has confirmed that Kenya’s Harambee Stars will play Equatorial Guinea on the next FIFA friendly day on Tuesday, September 8 in Nairobi.
According to the FA’s official portal, the match contract was signed on Thursday 3 in Nairobi between Sam Nyamweya on behalf of the federation and Swiss based FIFA match agent, Gael Mahe of Sport Global Management.
Nyamweya thanked Guinea’s FA president Andres Jorge Mbomio and the match agent for arranging the encounter. The match was to be played before this weekend’s AFCON 2017 qualifier but due to time constraints it was not possible.
“ We approached Equatorial Guinea to play in Kenya prior to playing the AFCON qualifier against South Sudan, but due to time constraints, we opted to play on the 8th of September.” Nyamweya said.
A win for lowly ranked Kenya against Equitorial Guinea who is ranked 62nd would greatly boost Stars’ position in the next rankings.
