The towering defender was outstanding despite Kabwe Warriors’ 2-1 loss to Power Dynamos in yesterday’s week 15 fixture of the FAZ MTN Super Division played at Arthur Davis Stadium in Kitwe.
Marcel Kalonda was solid at the back for Warriors repelling Power Dynamos dangerous attack engineered by the dreaded Fwayo Tembo, Larry Bwalya and Martin Phiri.
Although he was unable to prevent another away defeat for Mohammad Fathi, Kalonda’s leadership from his defensive position kept the scoreline respectable for Walya Nganga.
The Congolese born player displayed a set of good skills and was richly applauded even by the Power Dynamos supporters at Arthur Davis Stadium.
Rightly so, Kalonda was presented with the man of the match award by Supersport touchline pundit Jason Q. Dube.
And when asked about his great performance Kalonda said he was really honored to be man of the match.
“I am very happy for this award but I am sad we have lost the match. It is my job to defend and I try my best to execute my role as a defender.” The vividly sad Kalonda concluded.
This was Warriors’ fifth defeat of the season and many of the club supporters are concerned with the team’s poor striking force. Josphat Kasusu scored his 6th goal of the season making him the top scorer for the club but Martin Phiri and Francis Kasonde sealed a valuable three points for aba yellow.
However, the most comforting thing for the Railway men is their unbeaten home record and will go in search of maximum points when they host Lusaka Tigers at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium on Saturday 18th June 2016.
