James Kotei has set sight on defending the Tanzania premier league crown with his club Simba as his major target this season.

Simba FC were crowned champions after winning the Tanzanian Premier League last season with 69 points.

The 2018/2019 Tanzanian Premier league is already underway and Simba SC are currently heading the table with 6 points after two games.

“My target this season is to help my club retain the league and do well in CAF champions league,” The 25-year old midfielder told soka25east.com in an exclusive interview

“The club has set its focus and as the playing unit we want to help implement a winning strategy to help us retain the league and also qualify for CAF Continental competitions”Kotei said.

James Kotei joins seven other Ghanaian footballers – Nicholas Gyan, Kwasi Asante, Yakubu Mohammed, Enock Atta Agyei, Razak Abalora, Daniel Amoah and Hans Kwofie, who ply their trade in the Tanzanian Premier League.

James Kotei began his footballing career with Cornerstone in Kumasi. In 2007, he moved to Golden Foot Academy then coached by Mohammed Polo. He played as an Academy player for the renowned Accra-based club until 2009 when he left to join Sporting Mirren on loan.

Kotei joined Dansoman-based side Liberty Professionals in 2010 where he played three seasons.

In 2011, he moved to Brong Ahafo United on loan following the death of club owner Alhaji Sly Tetteh.

After completing his loan deal, he left Ghana to sign for Oman Professional League club Alorouba FC in 2015.

In 2016, he signed a 6-months deal with Tanzanian football giants Simba SC, however, he was handed a new two-year contract following his impressive performances for the club in all competition.
