He joins the top scorers list of Zesco United
Jesse Were is definitely happy to be at Zesco United and that is testament to the celebrations exhibited after he scored the first half goal in the final game against Mufulira Wanderers on Saturday 2nd December 2017.
He has been instrumental in the Zesco United team but the 2017 league title should be the biggest and most glamorous achievement in the Zesco United color. After the game, Bwezani asked Jesse why he was clad in a Kenyan flag, Were responded surprisingly that people had noticed the Kenyan flag.
“The picture of me carrying the flag doesn’t mean anything, it’s just like any other picture, but that was a special moment for me and my team,” Said Jesse Were in a phone interview with Bwezani.
Asked what his thoughts about the Zambia Super League, Jesse Were didn’t hesitate to respond,
“The Super League is competitive and very strong and you can tell on the last day with four teams chasing the title. To be the team that finally lifts it is very humbling and interesting.”
What about your dash of celebrations to the fans after you scored?
“laughs…. My celebration with the fans was simply to show the passion I have for the Club and the fans who have been excellent to me and the rest of team. We feel wanted and loved and makes us feel at home.” Concluded Jesse Were.
Were scored a total of 19 goals this season for Zesco United in the league bringing his total for the club to 42 from the time he joined Zesco United from Tusker FC in Kenya.
He joined Zesco United in 2016 and in just the second season at Zesco he has helped the team get to the semifinals of the CAF Champions League, Quarter finals of the Confederation Cup, Charity Shield 2017 and finally the league title for the year 2017.
