After Fasil Kenema of Gondar, Jimma Aba Bunna is the latest club from Zone “B” of the Ethiopian Higher League to earn promotion to the Ethiopian Premier League, the highest league of the land.

Jimma needed a point to reach unassailable haul of 61 which they achieved by picking it in a barren draw with second placed Werabe Ketema.

Their arrival on the men’s table was not by fluke as they have enjoyed a superb run all season.

Formed in 1954/55 by the Jimma Agricultural College, the club has been active in the Ethiopian football scene, but went under at some point before being revived in 2013.

They become the 43rd participants in the current format of the Ethiopian top flight football.

Two more teams from Zone “A” will be promoted to make a 16 team league next season.
