Jimma Aba Jiffar FC are the 2017/2018 Ethiopian Premier League champions after the walloped Adama Kenema 5-0 in Week 30 of the penultimate stage of the competitive league.It was jubilation for the team only promoted to the Premier league in the 2016/2017 season as they defied all odds to emerge on top of the log table in their debut season
The league went to the wire in the last day only needing permutation of goal difference to chose the winner between Jiffar and powerhouse St.George also known as Sanjaw by the adoring fans.
Its was tears and joy as both Jimma Aba Jiffa and St.George tied at 55 points from 30 matches but Jiffar had a better goal difference of +24 to Sanjaw +21 as they were declared champions.
St.George who have been breathing fire had beaten Hawassa Kenema 2-0 but it was not enough to dislodge the new champions who had a great season that no one expected.
St.George had won the prestigious title back to back in the last two seasons .
Jimma Aba Jiffa were formally known as Jimma Ketema and were promoted to the Ethiopian Premier League for the first time after the end of the 2016-17 season.
The club finished first in the Ethiopia second division league Group B after the 2016/17 season, by virtue earning a promotion to the 2017/2018 Ethiopian Premier league.
The club signed some notable foreign players to bolster the side, including Nigerian striker Okiki Afolabi who scored a massive 23 goals this season and and Ghanaian Goalkeeper Daniel Agyei.
