Rwanda’s senior men’s national team Head Coach Johnny McKinstry has been dismissed by the football federation (FERWAFA) for poor performance.

The youthful Northern Irishman took over the reigns at “Amavubi” in March 2015, guiding them to their first international away win in four years, in a 1-0 triumph over Mozambique in an AFCON 2017 qualifier.

He also steered Rwanda’s home based professionals to the quarterfinals of CHAN 2016 on home soil, and a runner up finish in the CECAFA Senior Challenge the previous year in Ethiopia.

Before joining Amavubi, the 31 year old was the head Coach of Sierra Leone, taking them to their highest ever FIFA ranking at position 50.

Rwanda is already out of the road to Gabon 2017, and have been sinking lower in the latest FIFA ranking. The team is currently ranked 121 from as high as top 90 two months back. They next face Ghana in the last round of qualifiers in September.
