Kabwe Warriors season a success

Kabwe Warriors season a success

Very few expected Kabwe Warriors to finish in 6th position let alone survive relegation at the end of the 2016 season.

Even the fans thought the club will be involved in the relegation battle but never at any point were the Magnificent People’s team placed in the drop zone.

There was a point late in the season when Warriors sufferred defeats at the hands of Nkana, Red Arrows, Zanaco, Forest Rangers and dull draws with Nkwazi, Nakambala and Napsa stars brought in an aura of doubt in Walya Nganga’s ability to maintain Super Division status.

Having gained promotion to the Super League under the tutelage of the now departed Egyptian Mohammed Fathi, Kabwe Warriors lost striker Idris Mbombo to Zesco United on loan as the club failed to match Zesco’s wage offer.

The Zambia Railways sponsored side also lost Claude Bwalya to Green Eagles in the middle of the season.

However, Warriors managed to accumulate 50 points from 34 matches, winning 13, 11 draws and 10 defeats.

A 3-2 victory over Nchanga Rangers in their last league match on Saturday 3 December, 2016  ensured Warriors finish the season on a high.

Midfielder Godfrey Ngwenya who scored a brace and made an assist in Warriors’ final home match described the season as amazing and is looking forward to next season.

“Am just looking forward to next season,as a team we have done well and as an individual am really pleased with my performance and I look forward to carry the same spirit next season,” Ngwenya told kabwewarriorsfc.com
