Kenyan champions Gor Mahia has received presidential invitation to State House on Monday, August 17.
Team captain Jerry Onyango will lead four other players and a few club officials for the function, where the president is expected to reward the team for the splendid performance at CECAFA.
The event was to take place on Friday 14, but it was canceled at the last minute, to allow president Uhuru Kenyatta to attend to urgent national matters.
K’Ogalo captured the imagination of the entire nation with a spirited fight at the 2015 CECAFA Kagame Cup held in Dar Es Salaam, where they finished second, falling 2-0 to Azam FC at the last hurdle.
President Kenyatta who catered for the team’s air tickets to Dar for the competition, closely followed their progress to the finals, which took place on August 2nd.
“Yes, the team was honored by presidential invitation to state house, it is a great honor and we thank His Excellency the president for the good gesture. As a club, we will remind him of his promise for sponsorship, as you know we are facing financial difficulties running the club.” Gor official Ronald Ngala told Soka25east.com
The 14- time Kenyan champions visited the house on the hill last year when they retained their title.
