Francis Thairu is an attacking midfielder who doubles up as the coach for Kawangware United. He has also played for Kenya Premier League side, City Stars.
He is currently leading his charges in the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League where the towering forward is enjoying imperious form, plundering 14 goals to lead the scoring charts to aid his side to tenth on the league table standings.
Thaish, as affectionately known by his revering fans, steered his side to the regional finals of the SportPesa Super 8 Tournament last year where they romped to victory and subsequently Kawangware United received an invitation to play in the SPS8 Premier League.
The Kawangware coach is one among a battalion of 60 coaches who received a special nod to attend a coaches training camp dubbed the SportPesa Arsenal Training camp where world class coaches from Arsenal will offer training to the local coaches.
“Extreme Sports and SportPesa are doing a commendable job which will help a lot and I think for football to reach new heights there should be more training like this in the future.” The towering tactician remarked.
He is very excited about the opportunity to get training from Arsenal coaches since he is an ardent fan of the north London club.
“I am very happy because first, I am Gunner and it will be a great chance to meet some of the best who coach the team that I support,” Thairu said.
He added: “I look forward to the training because, individually, I have a debt to pay to my community. Getting the skills from the training will help me pay that debt because I will be able to bring back more improved skills to my team and the community back in Kawangware.
Kawangware United are currently 12th on the SpS8 Premier League standings with 16 points.
