Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) are the winners of the 2017 Uganda Cup tournament after beating Fufa Big League side side Phaida Black Angels FC 2-0 in the final played at Betway Green Light Stadium in Arua.
Geoffrey Sserunkuma opened the scores with a stunning opener in the 10th minute with Derrick Nsimbabi sealing the win in the 57th minute as Kasasiro boys finally lay their hands to the trophy and medals for a double.
As they filed to receive their winners’ medals KCCA players decked danced with glee before exploding to joy when captain Denis Okot hoisted the trophy aloft with ticker-tape and confetti descending on the delighted squad.
The opening five minutes proved a lively affair as both sides looked determined to stamp their mark on the game early, although both goalkeepers went untested, largely thanks to some resolute defending.
Paidha had a chance to work something from a free-kick in a promising position after eight minutes, but Fred Amaku ‘s shot dipped the wrong side of the crossbar.
KCCA took he lead in 10th minutes gone as Muzamir Mutyaba broke free down the left wing before firing a low ball across the area, which Oyiworth let run through his legs to leave Sserunkuma to slot in the opener.
Paidha goalkeeper Data Said needed to be at his very best with just over half an hour gone as he produced a sublime diving, one-handed save to keep Tom Masiko out from almost point-blank range.
It was then Bejamin Ochan’s turn to impress at the other end as he got down well to keep out Rachid Saidi’s shot from a tight angle following some excellent build-up play from the Black Angels.
Lawrence Bukenya came within an inch of scoring an absolutely stunning opener five minutes after the restart as he lined up a shot some 40 yards out before unleashing a scorching effort which crashed off the crossbar with the goalkeeper beaten all ends up.
The Kasasiro boys finally got their second with 57 minutes gone on the clock,Nsimbabi doing brilliantly to turn his man before breaking through on goal and looped the ball over onrushing Data Saidi and in at the near post.
Six minutes later and Mike Mutebi’s men were in cruise of extending their win as om Masiko missed a simple task of tapping into an empty net after Rukundo unselfishly squared the ball to his team-mate when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
