KCCA stretched the gap at the top of the Azam Uganda Premier League standings to six points, thanks to Caesar Okhuti’s brace that destroyed Soana 2-0 at Nakivubo Stadium yesterday.
Coach Mike Mutebi’s side moved to 38 points whereas their closest rivals URA endured 1-1 stalemate against Lweza at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku. But like a fairy-tale script, Okhuti, who had not scored for KCCA since January and was under pressure to impress, basked in glory.
The former Express striker got the opener early in the first half after Herman Wasswa failed to capitalise on Joseph Ochaya’s cross inside the opening four minutes.
Okhuti took advantage of former KCCA defender Ayub Kizza’s defensive lapse to shoot past goalkeeper Didi Mohammed.
After wasting several clear-cut chances, Okhuti completed his double in the 75th minute. Once again it was a mix up in the Soana defence that gifted a loose ball that he scrambled into the back of the net.
“It wasn’t my best game,” admitted Okhuti. “But two goals let me off the hook. There is more to come.”
The defeat leaves Soana in a spot of bother after conceding six goals in three games. “My defence struggled,” said Soana coach Charles Ayiekoh. KCCA did not do anything spectacular but we just faltered and they capitalised.”
Sport Club Victoria temporarily got out of the relegation zone with 1-0 victory against Maroons.
