Ushuru have signed three new players in what has otherwise been a quiet transfer business for them.
Team coach Ken Kenyatta told kpl.co.ke that they have acquired the services of Bandari pair Lazaro “Lazo”Simba and Eric Okoth, and former Nakuru All Stars goalkeeper Shaban Odhoji.
The team has been rather inactive in the December-January transfer market, but Kenyatta said that this should not be misconstrued to mean that they have not been building up for the new season.
“The transfer window was put in place so that clubs can strengthen their squads if need be. It doesn’t mean that a club must be active in every transfer period. I was still assessing the players that I have and giving them time to choose whether they will leave or remain at the club. This way, I am able to make informed decisions with regard to recruitment.
“We have agreed terms with these three, and they are now part of the club. They have been training with us for a while now,” he said.
Okoth and Simba were dropped from Bandari at the end of the 2015 season and their additions to the taxmen’s rank could be seen as cover for dreadlocked Ugandan striker Allan Katerrega who is said to be on his way out.
Odhoji, who previously featured for Nakumatt and Muhoroni Youth, will step in the shoes of former Tusker goalkeeper Samuel “Abawa” Odhiambo, who crossed over to Chemelil Sugar late last year.
The taxmen, though, have lost a number of key players, among them striker Roosevelt Blatty and Mohammed Hassan to Sony Sugar, and former Thika United striker Moses Arita to Muhoroni Youth.
