Harambee Stars Coach Stanley Okumbi has called up eight additional players to link up with the team’s provisional squad, ahead of two international friendlies scheduled for this week.
The eight include, Ian Otieno (Posta Rangers), Edwin Mukolwe (AFC Leoapards), Peter Nzuki (Nakumatt) Tirus Omondi (KCB), Amos Kigandi (Vihiga), Nicholas Kipkirui (Zoo Kericho), Eston Esie (Western Stima) and Joseph Owiti (Chemelil).
The team takes on Sudan on May 27, 2016 at Kasarani Stadium, before playing Tanzania, two days later, at the same venue.
In the first encounter, Kenya will field a squad of emerging stars, while the second match will be a full international friendly.
Okumbi has also pointed out that the additional call ups have been necessitated by concerns that some of the players earlier named in the provisional squad, may not make it to camp due to club engagements.
“As you are aware, there are players who are scheduled to play league matches for their clubs this coming Thursday, and with the Harambee Stars playing Sudan on Friday, we feel that it is impossible to have them in the team for the clash and that’s why we have decided to beef up the squad,” said Okumbi.
“We are however certain that we will have all the players available for selection in our match against Tanzania on Sunday,” added the tactician.
Meanwhile, there has been changes in relation to Harambee Stars residential camp, the team will now camp at Kasarani Stadium and not Utalii hotel as had been earlier, communicated.
Players will assemble at the venue beginning 11am Monday 23rd May.
