Kenya Premier League defending Champions and league leaders Gor Mahia today received Ksh 2.5 million(approximately $28000) cash reward from the head of State His Exellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta for representing Kenya well and finishing second in this years CECAFA Kagame Cup that ended in Dar es Salaam,Tanzania.
The cash was presented to the Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier by Media Personallity and a close ally of the President Bill Arocho.
Gor Mahia who finished second in the tournament after losing to Azam in the final proved critics wrong beating big teams like Yanga and Al Khartoum to reach the final,against the expectation of many.
The club almost missed the 41st edition of the Kagame Cup due to financial incapability but the President came to their rescue paying for their air travel tickets.
Former Prime Minister and the Clubs Patron Raila Odinga had earlier rewarded the club with Ksh 2 Million(approximately $ 22,222 ) while the Deputy President gave out Ksh 500,000 ($5,555)before leaving for Cecafa.
Gor Mahia are currently unbeaten in the Sportpesa Premier League and are 11 points clear at the top.
They face another financially crippled Kenyan giants AFC Leopards in the Nairobi Derby christened the Mashemeji Derby on Sunday 23rd at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
