There will be a parallel top flight league after the High Court lifted an injunction against the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).
Lady Justice Roselyne Aburili sitting at the Civil Court Division at Milimani Law Courts lifted the orders which had been filed by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) against KPL.
The federation had sought a permanent injunction against the league run by KPL saying it was a parallel league in case it filed on February 20, 2015.
However, the judge said the FKF officials can seek for an appeal against the ruling or an out of court settlement. Following the ruling, the KPL league which kicked off on February 21st will resume as the other one known as FKF Premier League continues.
In a rejoinder,FKF Vice president Robert Asembo said the case was still alive only the injunction was discharged. “The injunction can still be pursued any time of course. This is the correct legal position”he said.
KPL Managing Director Jack Oguda said the league will resume this weekend. He welcomed the judges decision but reiterated that the Transparency Cup tournament has been shelved until further notice.
But there was drama as AFC Leopards fans who are allied to the FKF KPL league heckled and booed KPL officials just outside the court terming them as traitors.Police had to be summoned to save the situation as both Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards war spread out in the open spilling outside the court.
