Kisumu City will this time have a team in the second tier after a long absence. The Football Kenya Federation leagues and competition committee released a list of a total of 20 teams that will grace Kenya’ second tier league.
The league to be known as National Super League looks even more stronger and with the introduction of relegated KPL sides Nakuru All Stars and KCB together with promoted high flying Kisumu Palos and Vihiga United. kisumu Palos proved pundits wrong when they reached the last eight of the President’s cup losing to giants Gor Mahia. palos finished second to Vihiga United in Zone B while Police FC and Wazito FC will join from Zone A.
Most teams that took part in last season’s FKF Premier League except for Shabana and Finlay Horticulture will take part in the league.
Speculations of Kenichi based Zoo Kericho and Nairobi based side Kariobangi Sharks of joining the top tier side for a proposed 18 team league will not be a reality as the Clubs have been incorporated in the second tier league.
The list of the new look National Super League teams looks like this.
1. Zoo FC, 2. Kariobangi Sharks, 3. Nzoia United, 4. Bidco United, 5. West Kenya, 6.Agro Chemicals, 7. Oserian, 8. Nairobi Stima, 9. Modern Coast Rangers, 10. FC Talanta,
11. Ligi Ndogo, 12. Moyas 13. Palos, 14. Wazito, 15. Vihiga United, 16. Police FC, 17.
Nakuru AllStars, 18. KCB, 19. St, Joseph, 20. Nakumatt FC
It is yet not clear if next year’s top tier will have 18 teams and if yes how the relegation and promotion criteria will be.
