Kenyan premier league leading top scorer Jesse Jackson Were of Tusker FC has been suspended from the national team by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) over indiscipline.
Also suspended is fellow teammate Danson Kago. In a letter to Tusker Chairman signed by FKF Secretary General Michael Esakwa, the two are said to have sneaked alcohol into their hotel room during Stars’ last camp ahead of AFCON 2017 qualifier against Zambia which they lost 2-1 at home.
The duo were unused during the match despite making the last cut, and were never called up for World Cup 2018 qualifier against Mauritius.
It is believed the letter was also copied to other players who are believed to have also engaged in acts of indiscipline during the messy camp.
Were leads KPL scorers chat with 19 goal four more than Michael Olunga of Gor Mahia.
The Full Letter:
We convey our appreciation for the cordial and friendly working relationship between Tusker FC and the Federation and more so on the timely release for the national duties whenever called upon to do so.
Players from Tusker FC over the past years have made great and significant contribution to the national team thus boosting our performance internationally, however during the period of preparation for the 2017 African Cup qualifier between Kenya and Zambia, two players from Tusker FC namely Jesse Were and Danson Kago who had been paired together, one of the evenings while in camp sneaked in alcohol into their hotel room and the same was later brought to the attention of the National Team Head Coach and the Technical bench.
The National Head Coach internally took measures and sidelined the two key players from the starting lineup pending further disciplinary action, the same was communicated to the Federation.
The Federation summoned the entire National team technical bench on 21st September 2015 for a meeting to deliberate on among other things the matter and we painfully arrived at a decision to suspend the two players Jesse Were and Danson Kago for a period of 3 months from any national team assignments.
By a copy of this letter the same is communicated to the players.
