Two undisclosed clubs from Kenya and Zambia are eyeing the signature of highly rated KCCA’s attacking midfielder Paul Mucureezi, according to sources.
The 25-year-old, who joined the multiple Ugandan champions from lower division side Mutundwe Lions in 2014, has no more than six months left on his contract.
KCCA are said to be willing to keep him and have begun contract extension talks, but are also open to trading if a “serious offer” is tabled.
The player admitted to suitors knocking on his door, but added that for now his focus is with KCCA in their quest to defend Uganda FA Cup.
“For now, my concentration is with KCCA as we aim to defend the Uganda Cup. But I can’t rule out the fact that through my representative, there are interests from elsewhere,” Mucureezi told Soka25east.
Mucureezi has ability to play behind main forward, on the right or left side of attack, as he did with Uganda Cranes at the CHAN 2018 in Morocco.
He put four past hapless South Sudan in the qualifying phase of the continental tournament reserved for home-based professionals – making him the first Ugandan in history to score four in a single competitive Cranes match.
The player is strong, quick, and brave and possesses great dribbling skills.
In his four-year stint at KCCA, the procurement and logistics graduate from Uganda Christian University, Mukono won the Ugandan Premier League three times and the Uganda FA Cup once.
He netted four times for the coach Mike Mutebi’s side in just the ended 2017-18 UPL season – including a sublime free-kick against Bright Stars that took the league to the wire.
His knack for scoring important goals also manifested last season when he delivered the winner against Express FC that secured them the 12th league crown.
On the road to KCCA’s first ever qualification to the group stage of the CAF Champions League this year, his lone goal was all the Kampala giants needed to squeeze past CNAPS Sport of Madagascar.
