Lanky Chemelil Sugar and Harambee Stars budding defender Joseph Okumu has inked a two-year deal with Premier Soccer League side Free States Stars,South Africa.

Okumu has been trying out with the Bethlehem, Free State side for the past week, a test he passed and was on Wednesday handed a deal after lengthy negotiations between the two clubs.

The former Kakamega High School prodigy nicknamed “Crouch” was full of praise to all the coaches he has passed through in his short but promising career.

“I want to sincerely thank all the coaches who have developed me right from high school to the national team Harambee Stars. And to Chemelil Sugar for accepting me direct from high school; I owe this to them.” Okumu said.

Formed in 1977, the “Ea Lla Koto” are yet to lift PSL, however, their major trophy came in 1994 in the league cup, then called “Coca-Cola Cup”

They play home matches at 20,000 capacity Globe Park, Bethlehem.

Okumu joins fellow countrymen; Ali Abondo (Ajax Cape Town), Brain Mandela (Maritzberg United) and Clifton Miheso (Golden Arrows) in the highly rated South African league.
