The Kenyan Premier League has instituted proceedings against Gor Mahia FC before the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC) over crowd trouble during the final of the 2016 KPL Top 8 Knockout tournament.
The league body on Tuesday instructed Gor Mahia to appear before the IDCC on a date that will be later communicated to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against the club.
This follows scenes of crowd trouble during the Top 8 Knockout final between Gor Mahia and Muhoroni Youth on Sunday, October 16 at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
In the show cause letter to Gor, KPL Chief Executive Officer Jack Oguda notes that during the 83rd minute of the match, members, supporters and/or fans of Gor Mahia FC who were sitting on the terraces (Russia) caused the match to be stopped for 12 minutes after they threw stones and bottles to the field of play, conduct that is contrary to Rules 3.3, 3.4 (a), 6.1 and 7.7 of the Rules of Kenyan Football.
The League further notes that during the last minute of the match, members, supporters and/or fans of Gor Mahia FC, who were sitting on the terraces, invaded the pitch and as a result led to the match ending prematurely, contrary to Rules 3.3, 3.4 (a) and 7.7 of the Rules of Kenyan Football.
Muhoroni won the final 1-0 to clinch their first major title.
