Kenyan Premier League Youth Championship revived, gets financial boost

Three editions of the 2016 Kenyan Premier League U19 Youth Championship were launched today (Thursday 31) in Nairobi.

The competitions will be staged during school holidays with the first leg beginning on April 17-30,2016.

Participating teams are the U19 sides of all the 16 KPL outfits.

Sports betting giants SportPesa has pumped in a total of Kshs 18.6M spread over the three series. The winner for each edition walks away with Kshs 500,000.

The aim of the championship is to develop youth talent.

The 16 teams have been put in four groups of four teams each, with the best two from each group making it to quarters.

Group A: Gor Mahia, Western Stima, AFC Leopards, Sofapaka

Group B: Posta Rangers, Tusker, Mathare United, Chemelil Sugar

Group C: Ulinzi Stars, Sony Sugar, Ushuru, Bandari

Group D: Muhoroni Youth, Kakamega Homeboyz, Thika United, City Stars
