Kenyan Sports Minister gives warring factions FKF/KPL Deadline

Football crisis deepened after Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Limited failed to resolve their differences over the composition of the top flight league.

The two warring groups failed to agree in a meeting convened by Sports minister Dr.Hassan Wario to resolve the impasse.However, Wario gave both groups until Wednesday to resolve the differences failure to which the government will intervene and take unspecified action.The meeting came a day before the minister is expected to appear before Parliament to be grilled over the football crisis which is threatening to have the country have parallel premier leagues.

The federation backed league kicked off on February 15 and is being run by Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL) which consists of 18 teams. KPL insists on having a 16 team league they are running that commences on February 21.

In the meeting the government was represented by Wario, Principal Secretary Richard Ekai and Commissioner for Sports Gordon Oluoch.

The federation had FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya, vice chairman Robert Asembo, chief executive Michaal Esakwa and other national executive officials as KPL had Gor Mahia chief Ambrose Rachier AFC Leopard’s Allan Kasavuli and Managing Director Jack Oguda.
