Raia wa Zambia na mashabiki wa soka barani Afrika wanakumbuka miaka 23 tangu kutokea kwa vifo vya wachezaji wote wa timu ya taifa ya Zambia waliokuwa safarini kwenda nchini Senegal kucheza mchuano muhimu wa kufuzu katika fainali ya kombe la dunia.
Ndege ya kijeshi iliyokuwa inawasafirisha wachezaji, kocha na maafisa wengine wapatao 25,tarehe 27 mwezi April mwaka 1993 ilianguka katika Bahari ya Atlantic pwani ya jiji la Libreville nchini Gabon na abiria wote kuangamia.
Uchunguzi uliofanyika baada ya ajali hiyo ulibaini kuwa rubani wa ndege hiyo alikuwa mchovu, lakini pia alizima mashine ya ndege hiyo baada ya kushika moto.
Nahodha wa timu hiyo wakati huo Kalusha Bwalya ambaye baadaye alirithi mikoba ya kuwa kocha, na miaka ya hivi karibuni kuwa rais wa Shirikisho la soka, alinusirika katika ajali hiyo kwa sababu alikuwa anacheza soka la kulipa nchini Uholanzi katika klabu ya PSV, na binafsi alikuwa amepanga kutumia usafiri binafsi kufika Senegal kukutana na wenzake.
Mchezaji mwingine aliyeponea ni Charles Musonda ambaye wakati huo alikuwa anacheza soka nchini Ubelgiji katika klabu ya Anderlecht na kwa sababu alikuwa na jeraha, hakutajwa katika kikosi hicho.
Kikosi hiki cha Chipolopolo kilikuwa na wachezaji wenye vipaji vya kipee na mwaka 1988 wakati wa michuano ya Olmpiki jijini Seoul nchini Korea Kusini, iliwafunga Italia mabao 4 kwa 0.
Mwaka 2012, wakati michuano ya mataifa bingwa ilipochezwa nchini Gabon kulikoanguka ndege hiyo, Chipolopolo ilishinda taji hilo katika fainali iliyochezwa jijini Libreville baada ya kuishinda Cote Dvoire kupitia mikwaju ya penalti kwa mabao 8 kwa 7.
Familia za kikosi hicho kilichoangamia bado zimeendelea kuishinikiza serikali ya Zambia kuwafidia lakini pia kueleza ni kwanini iliruhusu ndege hiyo kuondoka nchini humo ikiwa na matatizo ya kimitambo.
