Paul Mungai Kiongera’s chequered career at former Tanzania champions Simba Soccer Club has come to an end upon expiry of his two years contract.
Kiongera is among three foreigners who have been let go by “Msimbazi Red” in what is believed to be a major shake up after a mediocre 2015/16 season for the Jackson Mayanja’s men. Simba finished third behind rivals Yanga who swept all trophies available in Tanzania.
He (Kiongera) joined Simba in August 2014 from Gor Mahia where he was on loan – however he found the going tough as he picked a knee injury almost immediately in a league match against Coastal Union, he was sent to India for specialized treatment and was later loaned back to his former club KCB; Simba recalled him for the just ended season, but he was sparingly used.
The player has lately been linked to a move back Kenyan Premier League with AFC Leopards reportedly on his trail.
Brian Majwega
Another on the chop board is Ugandan attacking midfielder Brian Majwega. Majwega crossed over to Simba from City rivals Azam FC in December 2015 – he wanted out of the Ice-cream makers after six months of no action. This wish was eventually granted after a protracted battle between the two clubs.
Azam at one point reported Majwega to the world governing body FIFA for forcing his way out of the club when his contract was still running; the stalemate was however resolved and the move was sealed.
Emiry Nimubona
Emiry Nimubona has also been let go; the 24 years old former Vital’O right full back joined Simba in July 2015.
Hamis “Diego” Kiiza
Kiiza joined Simba from arch rivals Yanga in July 2015. The diminutive Uganda Cranes and former URA striker penned a two year deal with the Dar es Salaam big wigs, in a move he hailed as a huge step in football career.
